How Does the HCG Diet Work?

How Does the HCG Diet Work

Lose weight without exercise!! We’ve all heard that promise on late night infomercials or seen it on the click bait that fills our screens every time we surf the Internet; we always change the channel or ignore the ad, because we know that the promise is too good to be true, a means to a scam. So it’s quite surprising that the HCG diet, with its years of research and positive results tends to be seen as one of those click bait scams.

HCG Hormone

HCG is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone that occurs naturally in both men and women. During pregnancy, however, it occurs at higher levels in females. This hormone is utilized in the HCG diet to help overcome weight loss resistance.

In the 1940’s, a weight loss and obesity named Dr. A.T.W. Simeons researched young Indian boys who had a medical syndrome that resulted in symptoms such as obesity, stretch marks, and excess fat in what we now consider regular far problem areas (lower abdomen, hips, and butt). He administered HCG to these boys, and the result was a redistribution of body shape and loss of ravenous appetite.

In a following series of tests with the hypothesis that HCG’s ability to mobilize fat would curb appetite and supply the energy necessary for a clean, low calorie diet, the average weight loss in patients was between 0.6 and 0.9 pounds a day!

HCG Today

Today, his original research has been optimized into two programs for those who wish to lose weight. Each program consists of the introduction of HCG into the body, either orally or by injection, and a low calorie diet. Injections are much more expensive as they have to be prescribed, but in a sense, they are more effective as the hormone is introduced directly into the bloodstream and not processed through the gut and liver.

The diet, often called the “500 calorie diet” is a lot simpler to adhere than it may seem at first. While it’s very low calorie (and don’t worry, you don’t have to count, despite the nickname), the HCG burns so much fat and supplies you with so much energy that you’ll barely ever feel hungry or it’ll at least be easier to resist the temptation to eat.

Depending on individual weight loss goals, the diet plan is either three or six weeks long during which you would take or receive the HCG supplement and maintain the low calorie diet. After the “rounds” of HCG treatment comes a “maintenance phase,” which is three weeks of higher calorie diets that DO NOT include sugars and starches.

HCG and Excersise

Now to the question we all want answered: Really? No exercise? And it’s true. While no one would suggest a completely sedentary lifestyle, exercise should be kept at a minimum, as the HCG does such a good job of burning fat by itself, and with the low amount of calories being consumed, too much strenuous work can become too exhausting.

The HCG diet may sound like a dangerous fad, but it’s safe. In fact, it can help with other health issues, such as high blood pressure and sugar. Very minor side effects, like muscle cramping or constipation may occur, but those are not permanent and you can get rid of them with minor changes in the program.

Sometimes, especially as we age, losing the weight without help from supplements and diets is just too hard. The HCG diet has worked for thousands of people and could be the answer for you.
