La m\u00e9dula espinal y los nervios recorren toda la columna y env\u00edan mensajes al cerebro y los m\u00fasculos. Entre cada v\u00e9rtebra queda un disco lleno de gelatina con un n\u00facleo exterior resistente; los discos dan flexibilidad a la columna y absorben los golpes cuando el cuerpo corre o salta. A veces, cuando uno se lastima la espalda o envejece, la sustancia gelatinosa empuja contra la capa exterior dura del disco, a veces se rompe y se derrama sobre los huesos y los nervios. Los discos rotos se denominan discos herniados. Aunque el dolor puede no estar directamente en el disco herniado, el dolor puede ocurrir en las piernas. Tambi\u00e9n puede resultar en dolor de espalda, debilidad, entumecimiento u hormigueo en los pies o p\u00e9rdida del control de la vejiga o de los intestinos.<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0<\/p><p dir=\"ltr\">Los pacientes que tienen una hernia de disco a menudo se someten a discectom\u00eda percut\u00e1nea, un procedimiento que elimina o reduce la cantidad de tejido en el n\u00facleo del disco herniado para aliviar el dolor y la inflamaci\u00f3n. Despu\u00e9s de tomar un sedante, el paciente se acuesta en dec\u00fabito prono mientras el m\u00e9dico administra anestesia local alrededor del disco herniado. El m\u00e9dico inserta una aguja en el disco herniado para eliminar el exceso de material, liberando la presi\u00f3n y eliminando el dolor. Aunque los pacientes sentir\u00e1n presi\u00f3n durante la eliminaci\u00f3n del exceso de material, no se supone que el procedimiento sea doloroso. Si bien la extracci\u00f3n del tejido solo toma unos minutos, todo el procedimiento dura aproximadamente 30 minutos. Los pacientes con los siguientes problemas pueden ser evaluados para este tipo de tratamiento:<\/p><ul><li>Ci\u00e1tica o radiculopat\u00eda (dolor, entumecimiento o debilidad en la pierna que comienza en la zona lumbar pero se extiende por toda la pierna)<\/li><li>Dolor axial puro (dolor de cuello musculoesquel\u00e9tico) causado por cierto tipo de hernia<\/li><li>Discos herniados peque\u00f1os contenidos<\/li><li>Discos herniados grandes contenidos que no se han roto, para los cuales la cirug\u00eda abierta no es una opci\u00f3n adecuada<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31e600c7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"31e600c7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Procedimiento de discectom\u00eda percut\u00e1nea<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1c9451aa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1c9451aa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Todos los procedimientos son m\u00ednimamente invasivos y utilizan peque\u00f1as herramientas m\u00e9dicas para disminuir la presi\u00f3n ejercida sobre los nervios espinales.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Se seda al paciente en un estado relajado pero a\u00fan despierto, y se aplica un anest\u00e9sico local en el \u00e1rea adecuada de la espalda para inducir el entumecimiento. Una vez que se adormece el \u00e1rea, se lleva a cabo una de las variaciones del procedimiento. Los tres m\u00e1s populares se describen a continuaci\u00f3n:<\/p><ul><li>Eliminaci\u00f3n invasiva: se elimina el \u00e1rea del disco que est\u00e1 da\u00f1ada; En algunos casos, se puede extraer todo el disco si no surgen problemas de salud adicionales como resultado.<\/li><li>Eliminaci\u00f3n de l\u00e1ser: un l\u00e1ser rompe el disco y se extrae una parte del todo<\/li><li>Succi\u00f3n parcial: la succi\u00f3n se utiliza para eliminar el l\u00edquido interno, lo que puede disminuir el dolor y reducir la presi\u00f3n de la inflamaci\u00f3n.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>El paciente puede sentir algo de presi\u00f3n, pero se debe esperar muy poco dolor.<\/p><p>El procedimiento es ambulatorio y lo m\u00e1s probable es que se receten medicamentos recetados para ayudar con la recuperaci\u00f3n. Durante varias semanas, se debe evitar la actividad f\u00edsica intensa, al igual que las actividades sedentarias.
